(sorry about yesterday's post, that real life stuff gets in the way sometimes)
When Michigan was going through its stretching and non-coaches coaching issues, I made a statement that if the media and NCAA come snooping around your campus they are going to find something wrong in your program. A real life example is when your about to sell your home, the prospective buyer hires a Home Inspector for $400 to find things wrong with your house. For $400 he will find something wrong with your home, no matter how big or small.
OSU now has every major media outlet in their backyard along with the NCAA and their foundation has cracked and water in the basement is starting to get pretty deep.
The "shell game" that was Tressel reputation continues to unravel. The Columbus Dispatch reported yesterday that The Vest communicated often with Pryors non-family members: After Tressel received an April 2, 2010, email from a former player warning him of potential NCAA violations, the coach exchanged 77 calls and text messages with and spent a total of 4 1/2 hours talking on the phone with Ted Sarniak, the hometown mentor of quarterback Terrelle Pryor in Jeannette, Pa.
Their longest phone conversation - 18 minutes - happened on Dec. 21, two days before OSU announced Pryor and five others would be suspended for part of the 2011 season for violations.
The two also spoke for three minutes immediately after the Dec. 23 news conference benching Pryor, Daniel Herron, DeVier Posey, Solomon Thomas and Mike Adams for five games and Jordan Whiting for one game.
Tressel and Sarniak exchanged text messages on March 8, the day OSU announced that Tressel had known about the violations for months.
Tressel also sent 91 text messages to Roy Hall, the current Jeannette football coach and another of Pryor's mentors. Hall previously told The Dispatch that he was not aware of the investigation and had not talked with Tressel about it.
Again the man with the clean reputation was anything but. His cover up for Tattoo-gate went far and wide, which leads me to wonder how many other times did he have similar type of events and covered those up (successfully) as well.
Pryor
Raise your hand if you first thought was "Doom" when Pryor went to Ohio State? That decision alone basically cost Michigan fans one season with combo QB play of Nick Sheridan and Steven Threet.
Now 3 years later, Michigan has Denard Robinson one of the best kids in College Football and Terrelle Pryor is considering the CFL. Wow, things sure have changed in 3 short years.
Funny as it may seem Pryor not picking Michigan might have been the turning point for Michigan to retain it's roots and get back to playing Michigan Football. I will admit, I was not a big fan of the way the Michigan Program was heading in Carr's last year. He had a talented football team that came out of the tunnel on opening day not ready to play and got beat by App. State. Lloyd had stayed too long and his program showed it.
RR came in as the new hot shot coach ready to change the world. His teams didn't play any defense and finally the Michigan faithful had enough. If Pryor was here would he had got into the same type of trouble?
Who knows and who cares? We might of had a few more wins and RR still might have a job. But sitting here on 6/8 I am pretty happy with the direction of the program lead by Coach Hoke, Coach Mattison and on the field by Mr. Robinson. Thank you Mr. Pryor!
The news of Pryor leaving was not really news, the Buckeye Blogs had it a couple of weeks ago. He just made it official yesterday. The news from ESPN that he made $20K to $40K in autographs is a new one.
So while USC loses it's National Championship and Tennessee's AD quits you start to wonder about Ohio State's NC and Auburn's as well. Not a great time for College Football as a whole, let's hope Michigan is on steady ground and ready to move in the right direction.

Steven Threet to Call it a Career and Why It Should Make You Think
If you have followed the Big House Blog for a few years you know one of the topics I take very seriously are head injuries in football. If you missed those past articles, I will re-set my stance on the topic (do a search if your interested in the past posts on this topic):
Football is changing, It used to be that if you played High School, College, and maybe even made it to the NFL you knew you might be giving up a couple of knees, probably have back problems, and maybe a shoulder or two. Now it seems the injuries and penalties can be much worse and even devastating.
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy commonly referred to as CTE is a degenerative brain disease that has been showing up in football players as young as 18. In Boxing, they commonly refer to this disease as being "punch drunk". CTE is now showing up in the pre-mature deaths of many football players who struggle with depression and having a brain that is more like a 90 year old then a 50 year old. One of the higher profile cases was the recent death of Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry who had CTE at the age of 26. There are also studies that are showing former football players and European soccer players are also suffering a higher rate of "Lou Gehrig's " disease or ALS. Why soccer players? They are taking head shots from a ball traveling at a rate of 80 mph.
Many researchers had linked CTE to concussions which is accurate but the more alarming trend is evidence of CTE in players that never had a history of concussions. Chris Henry is an example of that theory. Chris never had any reported concussions and clearly had CTE after his death from jumping on a moving vehicle.
This week there have been two alarming cases for football fans and football players. The first sign was the suicide of former Chicago Bears defensive back Dave Duerson. Dave sent a text to his family moments before his death that asked for his brain to be tested and the results sent to the NFL. Dave was suffering from depression and was filing for bankruptcy.
Then today we learn of the apparent retirement of former Michigan QB Steven Threet who has one more year of eligibility left at Arizona State. Steven has had 4 concussions and suffered 2 just last year, Oct. 23 at California and Nov. 26 against UCLA . Threet told the Arizona Republic on Wednesday that he's still experiencing symptoms from the last concussion and still has headaches and has trouble sleeping. A source told ESPN that "Doctors have told him a fifth concussion could be debilitating," a source told ESPN. "You don't want to be 35 years old and can't hold up a cup of coffee."
If you need more proof, read the story about the University of Pennsylvania offensive lineman Owen Thomas who also committed suicide in college. Owen was the first college football player to have CTE and here are the chilling words from his mother: “I knew there was a missing piece,” says Thomas’ mother, the Rev. Katherine Brearley, of Allentown, Pa. “No one has given me even a hint of an explanation why Owen, at the drop of a hat, would kill himself. It’s out of all proportion and totally out of his character.”

If things don't change these type of head injuries will effect the long term viability of the sport we love. The NFL is starting to take this seriously now after years of not believing the evidence. It's now clearly starting to effect high school and college football as well. Question, do you want someone you love playing football? Steven you are making a great decision. Michigan Thursday: Catching Up with 3 Michigan Transfers
Editors Note: Today is a little light on actual Michigan Football news. (The basketball team plays Bowling Green tonight!)
At 7:00 tonight this weeks Michigan's injury report will come out and expect to see Martin and Mouton probable and Taylor Lewan and Mike Shaw questionable. Hopefully Fitz Toussaint didn't hurt himself in practice and can go if needed.
With that said, here is a look at how a few Michigan transfers are doing at their new schools....
As a Michigan fan we can hardly believe why anyone would ever want to leave Ann Arbor and the most storied college football program ever. Sadly, some guys just don't "buy in" or think they will get more playing time at another institution. There are players every year that make the decision to leave but rarely do they become successful like Justin Fargas or Ryan Mallett. We know Ryan is doing well Arkansas and Boren is starting for Ohio State, but let's catch up on guys not on SportsCenter too often:
Sam McGuffie, RB Rice Owls: Sam had the best game of his career two weeks ago against Tulsa. Where he ran for 178 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown. In 2010 he has had 149 attempts and 642 yards with 3 touchdowns. He also has had 32 catches for 275 yards and 1 TD. Sam seems to be getting better as the year goes on, but you can't say that for the Rice Owls who have only won 2 games this year.
Let's hope Sam hasn't received any concussion this year and still has a successful college career in front of him.
Steven Threet, QB Arizona State: Trick or Threet would be a good slogan for the Sun Devils this year. While leading the ASU offense, Steve is 207-333 with 2530 passing yards with 18 touchdowns. The problem is, he has thrown 16 picks and been sacked 22 times. After starting the year 2-0, ASU has gone 2-6 in their last 8 games and will have to beat UCLA and Arizona to get bowl eligible. Steve is currently sharing first team reps with sophomore quarterback Brock Osweiler during the bye week.
Threet was also named to the PAC 10 All Academic team this week with a 3.82 grade-point average in general studies.
Toney Clemons, WR Colorado: Toney has had a nice season for the Buffalo's. He has had 40 catches for 426 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is the second leading receiver for Colorado who is just 4-6 on the year and with out a head coach that was just fired two weeks ago. Clemons had a good game this past Saturday as he had four catches for 55 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown, as Colorado defeated Iowa State, 34-14.
Safety Vlad Emilien who recently transferred from Michigan will be joining Toney next year at Colorado as they enter PAC 12 country.

Wolverine Wednesday: Looks at Michigan Prospects in the Top 250
Update: 2011 CB from Florida Dallas Crawford might make his college decision known this Friday which is his 18th birthday. All signs point to Dallas being a Michigan Wolverine. For those that don't know, Dallas is a teammate of bigtime WR Sammy Watkins.
Rivals new top 250 is now out and Michigan has plenty of prospects on the list including verbal commit Brennen Beyer from Plymouth at #194. Other prospect that are considering Michigan between 100-250 include:
Michigan fans, don't hold your breath on the DeAnthony Arnett announcement tonight. DeArnthony has been having some fun on Twitter that past couple of days, but expect an announcement for either MSU or Tennessee. Tennesse looks to be the winner.
Today is the start of the early signing period for basketball. Michigan is expected to sign 2 players: Carlton Brundidge, a 6'1 200 pound shooting guard from Southfield, MI. He is rated the #73 player in the country.
Also Trey Burke, a 6'1 160 pound point guard from Columbus, OH. He is a 3 star prospect to Scouts.

Michigan has the 5th rated class in the Big Ten right now.

- Michigan's Football Facebook page has 300,000 likes.
- Roy Roundtree was the co-offensive Big Ten Player of the week. This is big week for Roy, since he was orgnianlly committed to Purdue before changing his mind on signing day.
- Threet having an up and down year with ASU: Michigan transfer Steven Threet continues to produce mixed results in his first season with Arizona State. He threw three touchdowns for the fourth time, but had multiple interceptions for the fifth time."Just too much up and down," Threet said. "I just need to play more consistent and help the team more."
- Dee Hart and his Dr. Phillips teammates are breaking records down in Florida. Through nine games, Hart’s stats now read: 1,434 rushing yards to break the school single-season record of 1,351 set by Aaron Layne in 1992. He also now owns the Metro Conference career touchdown mark at 32 and he is closing in on a milestone 6,000 all-purpose yards with 5,999. Hart and his teammates have scored 476 points with only West Orange to go this Friday. Those numbers bring the Class 6A state scoring record, previously held by Miami Northwestern, to Orlando.

Michigan Monday: Former Wolverine QB's Have a Tough Weekend
After watching Denard Robinson run the Rich Rod offense many of us Michigan fans can't blame Ryan Mallett and Steven Threet for transferring to other schools. Both transfers have seemed to work out for the young men. Ryan has become one of the more explosive QB's in the SEC and Steven Threet is well under way for making his imprint on Arizona State.
Last Saturday both players had a chance to give their teams big wins over highly ranked opponents and for Mallett a chance to grab the lead in the Heisman race. Both players threw for over 300 yards but both had poor decisions that cost their team wins. Ryan had 3 interceptions against #1 Alabama and threw two in the fourth quarter when Arkansas had the lead. Steven through 4 interceptions on the day against #4 Oregon with 3 of those picks coming in the 4th quarter. His first interception was returned for a pick 6.
Those decisions obviously either cost their teams the game or a chance at a comeback. So we wish these gentlemen luck and hope for better days in the PAC 10 and the SEC.

- Michigan - MSU Game will be 3:30 kickoff on ABC/ESPN. This will be a lock on ABC if both teams win next weekend. MSU hosts Wisconsin.
- For those that are worried that Fitz Tousaint got caught from behind on his first carry as a Wolverine that went for 60 yards but was caught at the 3 yard line. He is still nursing a knee injury and had a knee brace on. I'm sure he doesn't get caught if he is healthy. He scored on the next play.
- Michigan is ranked #20 in the AP and #19 in the Coaches Poll.
- TomVH from Mgoblog reports that 2012 instate DT Danny O'Brien got a Michigan offer on Saturday.
- Lloyd Carr wants some type of playoffs in college football.
- Tim Brewster, Minnesota's head coach is on "unemployment watch" after the Golden Gophers lost to Northern Illinois last weekend. This week would be a good time for a fresh start with the Big Ten season starting. Maybe they should call Glen Mason again.
- ESPN's Big Ten Blog is ranking Michigan #4 in the Big Ten Power Rankings behind OSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Which is about right.
- There is a rumor floating around right now that Dee Hart will visit Alabama this weekend and then make his official decision known.

Big Ten Preview Week #3
With Michigan now ranked in the top 25, the Big Ten has 5 teams in the polls with Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State.
Let's take a look at the weekend match ups.
Best Big Ten Match up:
Iowa at Arizona: I did a previewed the Big Ten season on the Michigan Man podcast back in August and I picked Iowa to win the Big Ten Title this year. Their only tough road game during the Big Ten schedule is a trip to the Big House or Denard's Den. I did predict Iowa to have one non-conference loss and this is the game I picked. Big Ten teams historically have not travelled well West anytime during the season. Recent Michigan games in memory are losses to Washington, Oregon, and an Ohio State loss to USC. This game is a late one which kick off at 10:00 EST time on Saturday night. Vegas has this game pretty close with Iowa holding a 1.5 edge. I think Iowa is the better team but I just don't trust the travel. Arizona 21 Iowa 17
Arizona State at Wisconsin: This game might be a close second for the best B10 match up. This might be called the Steven Threet Bowl. Steve hasn't beaten too many D1 schools as a QB at any of the 3 schools he has attended but Wisconsin happens to be one of them. He lead a second half comeback in the Big House after being down 19-0 at half time during RR's first year in Ann Arbor. Steve was terrible in Arizona State's Spring Game but has had a very nice first two games as the Sun Devils starter. Wisconsin on the other hand has been under the radar in winning two games in un-spectacular fashion. The Badgers are favored by two touchdowns which I think is a lot. Wisky 28 ASU 21
Notre Dame at Michigan State: You would think Brian Kelly had enough of his former home state last weekend when Denard Robinson ran all over the Golden Domers. This week his team heads up to East Lansing to play a team ND has struggled against no matter where they play them. Right now ND is 1-1 in the Big Ten and looking for a Rose Bowl birth (sorry I must have fast forwarded a couple of years). Back to 2010: Sparty has two wins against Western Michigan and Florida Atlantic both basically home games. They host ND which gives them an edge but I don't think anyone was happy how Sparty played against FAU last weekend. If Dayne Crist is healthy and the ND defense plays like they did last Saturday, I think ND wins this one. Sparty is a 3.5 favorite. ND 31 MSU 24

Ball State at Purdue: The battle of Indiana. Purdue lost their top WR last week for the year but they have enough to beat a Ball State team that was pretty good a couple of years ago. Purdue is favored by 17. Purdue 38 Ball State 10
Ohio at Ohio State: The battle of Ohio. Maybe not but after the Miami game, OSU deserved another MAC opponent. Does OSU ever have to go on the road? Pryor will have another big game. The Vest better get a back up ready just in case TP goes down during the season. OSU is favored by 30.5. The Vest 42 Ohio 6
Northern Illinois at Illinois: The battle of Illinois. The Big Ten sure has done a wonderful job supporting the economy of Illinois this season. I think every Illinois directional school has played a Big Ten team. Zook got his first win of the season last weekend and should pick up #2 this weekend. Zook and company are only favored by 7 so Vegas isn't sold yet. Zook 24 NIU 13
Indiana at Western Kentucky: A Tri-State Shoot Out. IU took a bye in week 2 (seriously who takes a bye in week 2?). Why is IU playing at Western Kentucky? Lots of questions for Indiana only after one game. I think they struggle on the road early but their offense over powers WKU. Doesn't WKU have that big red mascot? I like that guy. IU is favored by 12. IU 28 WKU 21
USC at Minnesota: This is the lame duck coach bowl. Ouch! I'm guessing Lane might stay at USC for a few years but I'm guessing Pat Haden the new AD is not a fan. USC has like 50 players under scholarship right now and Minnesota just came off a loss to South Dakota. I don't have any confidence in Lane but I know his old man can coach. This one might get ugly even though USC is playing with one bad behind their back. USC is favored by 12.5. I don't think this one will be that close. USC 42 Minnesota 21
Northwestern at Rice: Return of Sam McGuffie to Big Ten Bowl. This is a tricky road game for Northwestern but I don't think Rice has that much of anything. Even our boy Sam has struggled playing for the Owls this year. Wildcats are favored by 6.5. NW 24 Rice 14
Kent State at Penn State: State vs State Rivalry? I know I'm reaching. Penn State had a cupcake for breakfast, a beat down for lunch, and another cupcake for dinner. Bolden looks better when playing a MAC school vs the #1 team in the nation. JoPa is favored by 3 touchdowns. Makes sense: JoPa 21 Kent State 0
Week 3 Story Lines: Will former Wolverines "haunt" their Big Ten opponents? Will Tate Forcier play? Will Tim Brewster need a few brews after the game? Will ND rebound against MSU (only Crist knows)? Will that Red Guy play defense for WKU? Will the Big Ten go 2-0 vs Arizona schools?
I say if IU wins that game they should get to have the Red Guy as their mascot. They can play every year for him. It could be titled the Red Guy Return Rivalry.
I will preview the Michigan vs Minuteman match up on Friday.

Michigan Tuesday: Dee Hart Update and Other News & Notes
Dee Hart Update: "I feel I can come in and play right now in that offense with Denard, then it will be 'pick your poison,’ ” Hart said. (Freep link). Dee is planning an official visit to Auburn this weekend for the Clemson game and visit to Alabama for the Florida game in October. Dee still contends that Michigan is his leader but those trips scare me a little bit. Add this from Rivals: "I watched it yesterday and all I know is Denard [Robinson] got off and ran that thing," Hart commented.
"A decision is coming pretty soon," Hart said. "I'm going next week to see Auburn-Clemson. Most likely that will be an official, but I don't know yet. I'll get out to Alabama probably for the Alabama-Florida game [Oct. 2]." "I'd say Michigan is out front," Hart said.

- For the weird file: Steven Threet gets to play Wisconsin again this weekend. What's weird about it, is the last time Threet played Wisconsin he was playing for Michigan and upsetting the ranked Badgers at Michigan Stadium. Some of you still might remember that 10 minute run Steven had down the sideline to help win the game that day. This weekend Threet will quarterback the Arizona State Sun Devils in Madison on Saturday. Ironically, Wisconsin is highly ranked again coming in at #12. Steve threw for 392 yards against Northern Arizona last Saturday. This will be the Sun Devils first real test of the year.
- An update on Sam McGuffie: I wish him well but he seems to be struggling again this year at running back for Rice. In two games he has 28 attempts for 65 yards which is a 2.32 average per rush. He does have a catch for a touchdown and has caught 5 passes for 84 yards.
- For those that think Saturday is going to be a cake walk, think again: UMass is ranked #16 in the FCS Poll. "We're excited to go out there and represent UMass,'' Minutemen coach Kevin Morris said. "We're facing a storied program, and we know that, but we're going out there to win. We're putting everything on the table, like we always do.''
- Light Up the Big House! The regents will vote on Thursday to add permanent lights to Michigan Stadium. The cost will be $1.8M and the athletic department will cover the cost for the project. Michigan will host ND next year for the first night game at the Big House and there will be a hockey game in the Big House this winter.
- With the recent attrition, Michigan can sign up to 20 players right now for the 2011 class. This might add a spot for another RB (other then Dee Hart of course) and maybe another WR.
- Michigan recruit Kris Frost will make an official visit to North Carolina this weekend. He is still planning a Michigan official for the Michigan State game.
- Anthony Lalota did not make the trip to ND this past weekend. Another sign he wasn't putting in the work during practice to get playing time. It seems the offense line might be a better fit for this young man.
- Denard's historic run went for 87 yards against ND. Michigan lost Ron Kramer on Saturday who wore #87. I'm just saying! (HT: Mgoblog)

Michigan Tuesday: Updates on Former Wolverines
Sometimes you might be sitting in the Big House and think to yourself, "Whatever happen to the small RB from Texas? What was his name? McDuffie or something?". Actually it's Sam McGuffie at he is now at Rice. So this year, I will track some former Wolverines or former recruits we thought were going to be Wolverines at their new school to see how they are doing. Sure these guys are no longer "Michigan Men" but many of us still hope they succeed in college, football, and life.
Steven Threet, Starter QB Arizona State: Had a good first game at his third school. Was 14-21 for 239 yards in the air, with 2 touchdowns and 1 pick.
Russel Sheppard, LSU: Russell was the #1 dual threat QB in the country in the 2009 and was interested in the Wolverines before he quickly committed to LSU early in his recruitment. Sheppard is now at WR for LSU and had 2 catches for 12 yards. He also had 5 rushes for 68 yards.
Sam McGuffie, RB Rice: Sam and his teammates got to open at Texas and Sam had 14 carries for 47 yards. He had 1 catch for 7 yards.
Kevin Newsome, QB Penn State: Kevin was once a verbal commitment to Michigan and then changed his mind. Kevin is a sophomore QB and lost his job to Michigan true freshman QB Robert Bolden. Kevin did play in Penn State's blow out win and had 3 rushes for 21 yards and one touchdown.
Shavodrick Beaver, QB Tulsa: Same situation as Kevin above. DNP in Tulsa's lost to East Carolina on Sunday.
Ryan Mallett, QB Arkansas: A serious Hesiman candidate this year. Threw for 301 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 44-3 win over Tennessee Tech.
Something to ponder: If Michigan has Newsome and Beaver on it's roster right now, they don't have Forcier and Robinson.
